The Basic Tour of the Vatican focuses on the Sistine
Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. Since the Sistine Chapel
is inside the Vatican Museum, the tour includes also
the galleries that line the way to the Sistine Chapel.
We reserve the tickets
for you and take you inside so as to avoid the long
line. First we give you an introduction to the Vatican
in the Pinecone Courtyard and then we take you towards
the Sistine Chapel, where you will visit, along the
way, the Gallery of the Candelabra with its original
Roman statues, the Gallery of Tapestries with its 500-year-old
tapestries, and the Gallery of Maps where you can admire
360 ft. long breathtaking maps. Stop in the Sistine
Chapel to adore Michelangelo's famous frescos: the Creation
on the 660 sq ft ceiling and the Final Judgement above
the altar. You will have time to look, see, learn, understand
and enjoy the most famous frescoes in the world. Adorning
the side walls are other wonderful, older masterpieces
painted by 14th century masters such as Botticelli,
Perugino, Pinturicchio, Ghirlandaio.
From the Chapel a beautiful staircase designed by Bernini
will take you straight into St. Peter's Basilica to
admire another celebrated work by Michelangelo: the
Pieta'. There you'll also see Bernini's Canopy, wonderful
mosaics, papal monuments and learn much more about the
papacy and the origin of the Vatican.
The tour ends in St Peter's Square and if you want to
stay longer in the Vatican, we will point you the way
to the Pope's tombs or to the Dome. |
